Violencia! (June 5th 1856)

Hey, remember last time when I said that I would post if anything happened, well guess what? Something happened. So my Uncle was getting really mad, he had just moved out there to Kansas and learned about the situation, when suddenly he hears that a mob is going over to Lawrence and what does he do? Goes out and joins em', comes back Hours later covered in soot and ash and a wee bit o' blood. He goes on to explain the chaotic scene, they went into the town burned the hotel, destroyed the library and printing presses and KILLED ONE MAN. I was in shock, I mean slavery is good but I dunno if we need to go to murder over it..... Also, I done come to find out that my son, Preston Brooks, done gone and defended his uncle's honor, beat down that dang Charles Sumner who insulted my Brothers Honor! Gave him quite the congratulations afterwards, heh, he always did follow the old southern traditions. And last but not least, what the heck is up with this John Brown feller? Who just goes, takes people out of their beds and then hacks them to death? I mean killing one guy, that ain't as bad as five, and cause of all this the newspapers done started calling us Bleeding Kansas, well I don't know about you but I don't take to that name kindly! Right I think that's it for me maybe I will post again, maybe not.... Jebidiah Montegery Brooks the third signing out!

Success, I think.... (September 3rd 1855)

Hey! Uh huh we done did it good! The vote went as plan with all of the state turning out and a few of my cousin's friends on the scene as well,  helping with the convincing.... Its good to see that people are finally getting around to seeing the light and recognizing how great slavery is! I mean here we are in the South preaching about how perfect it is and then the North is having none of it, but then we all go into Kansas and bam! Suddenly people have changed their opinion. At least that's what I thought, little did I know that in my celebration I overlooked one teensy weensy little fact, My cousin happened to be living in Missouri, not technically in Kansas, and so apparently he and his friends shouldn't have counted in this election and Some of the guys from the north have gotten a "little" mad.... They done formed their own separate free government  just who do they thing they are? Going around making up their own rules and such! why I oughta......RRRRRRRGHGHHGHGH. Right so long story short we aren't on the best of terms w/ the north at the moment.... ummmm so I might post some updates later......... you know, if anything happens.

Kansas-Nebraska Time! (August 19th 1854)

Well that government done be turning out to be not so bad at all, they done repealed the Missouri compromise and let the people choose whether or not they want slavery in Kansas! I mean slavery is just so perfect and useful that there is no way that it won't be allowed in the new territory. I plan on moving out next week for the vote that is going to be happening soon, and then doing my best to make a living in the area, see you then! My cousin also says that he will be "staying close" to the area in case we need some help persuading the region to approve slavery, he says that a few of his other friends will also be ready to help out come the day of the election, hopefully all goes well, wouldn't want to go through all this trouble just to have to move back now would I?

Books are Bad! (September 9th 1852)

That goldang filthy liar Harriet Beecher Stowe! She done wrote a book saying that we done here in the South are a bunch of abusive and irresponsible racists that beat and abuse our slaves! Uncle Tom's Cabin she calls it, hogwash I say, hogwash, there ain't nothin bad about what I'm doing down here! What I want to do with my property is my own business and nobody can tell me what I can and cannot do with it. If I was to go and hit my couch with a whip people wouldn't say a thing, just look at me funny, but now here I go and hit my other property, slaves, with a whip and now suddenly it's a bad thing, and I should be punished and what knot. Well guess what? My nephew just published a book about how life really is for slaves down here in the south, I mean we ought to know seeing as how we are down here and Stowe ain't!

Some benefits to the compromise of 1850 (May 13th 1851)

So today I found out the reason that this compromise is really kinda ok, a bucnh of slaves were returned to me today, at least I'm pretty sure they are mine, they look like it anyway, I mean they are African-American, so they must be mine right? Irregardless they were caught by my third uncle living up in New York, good feller that man, obeying the law and whatnot. He was saying that a few of his neighbors were giving him dirty looks when he was getting the police on the scene, but I don't get why, good man was just obeying the law like I said earlier. Put em' right back to work in the fields.
Here they are, oh they be gettin' the whip later.

Beginings (June 12th, 1850)

This blog is the property of Jebidiah Montegery Brooks the third, just like my slaves, it belongs to me! Now then, down to buisness, see here recently that dang government passed the compromise of 1850, they done let California come into the union as a free state, I had planned to move out there with my slaves and even worse my cousin living in Texas now aparently isn't cause the borders are redefined, oh well at least when my slaves somehow escape they have to be returned to me by law! I would have to say that my fifth cousin thrice removed, John C. Calhoun, might be right with his idea that we done been mistreated and need to secede. Maybe, maybe not, but we done got to do something, otherwise slavery will be gone just like that!
